Biography

Peter Matthews is an advertising and new media professional who lives in New York City. As an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame, he was Program Director of WSND-FM, where, among other responsibilities, he hosted his own interview show, where he encountered Lukas Foss, John Browning, and Alexander Toradze. After graduation, he worked as a Public Relations representative for Herbert Breslin, who at the time represented Luciano Pavarotti, Alicia De La Rocha, Natalise Dessay, Renee Fleming, Deborah Voight and Olivier Messiaen.

In 2003, Matthews was invited to travel to Berlin, where he met with Richard McNicol and Denise Mellion of the Berlin Philharmonic to speak about their recently-introduced education program, Zukunft@Bhil. The following year, he completed the American Symphony Orchestra League's "Essentials in Orchestra Management" seminar, taught by the executive directors of the Chicago, Milwaukee and San Francisco Symphonies, the Cleveland and Philadelphia Orchestras, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. Since then, he has been actively involved in the New York music scene as a spectator and occasional participant.

Regarding Feast of Music, he says the following:
"I'm starting Feast of Music with a healthy sense of self-doubt, knowing there is already significant coverage of the New York music scene, both in traditional and non-traditional media. But, after much deliberation, I've come to the conclusion that while some folks cover some of the things I've seen (and heard) some of the time, no one has managed to capture it all. For myself, then, I wanted to create a scrapbook, something to look back on someday and marvel at the miraculous music scene that existed in the early years of the 21st Century in New York City. I hope it's something others will enjoy as well."
