Those headed out to tonight's Dirty Projectors show at Celebrate Brooklyn can look forward to a strong, theatrical set, if their show Saturday night at Montreal's Socety for Arts and Technology (SAT) was any indication. The show, part of the Montreal Jazz Festival, was moved from the larger Metropolis club due to poor ticket sales - pretty shocking given the sold-out houses they regularly play to here. Still, frontman/composer/mastermind Dave Longstreth was in good spirits, despite the initimate crowd of 200 or so and lack of A/C. Playing through most of their new album Swing Lo Magellan (out today), Longstreth and Amber Coffman traded back and forth on vocals, with all of the quirky meters and pungent dissonances we've come to expect. There was a bit of a Fleetwood Mac vibe going on, as if someone had crossbred the 70's supergroup with Captain Beefheart. Go tonight, and you'll see what I mean: tickets available at the door, at various Bowery Venues, or online.
