Once again this year, the first weekend of August brings the return of two major out-of-town jazz festivals. On Saturday night, I'l be back at the Caramoor Jazz Festival in Katonah, NY, where banjo master Bela Fleck will join forces with the Marcus Roberts Trio. Then, up in Rhode Island, Dan Lehner will be covering the 58th Newport Jazz Festival, with appearances from everyone from Pat Metheny and Jack DeJohnette, to big bands led by Darcy, Maria Schneider, and Ryan Truesdell's centennial tribute to the great Gil Evans.
