In the latest sign that Brooklyn is the new Downtown, Ben Sisario reports in today's Times that the Knitting Factory has taken over the failed Luna Lounge space on Metropolitan Ave. (another former Manhattan club), and plans to move in sometime next year. This comes on the heels of The Tank's announcement that they're being kicked out of their space around the corner on Church St. at the end of the month; no word yet on a new space for them.
According to Knitting Factory president Jared Hoffmann, the club "has no future in increasingly upscale TriBeCa." Meaning: the only sustainable businesses in downtown Manhattan these days are condos and pooch motels. Nice.
