Last Exit

Wordless Outdoors

Image003 A estimated crowd of 10,000 turned out at the Prospect Park Bandshell last night for the first collaboration between Celebrate Brooklyn and the Wordless Music Series. The Metropolis Ensemble lit up the crowd with a remix of The Rite of Spring, melding Stravinsky's pounding, primal rhythms with Star Wars-like raygun blasts. Deerhoof knocked it out of the park with its weird, off-kilter sounds of an almost-classical complexity. Drummer Greg Saunier - who trained at conservatory - made a point of thanking Metropolis and their conductor, Andrew Cyr, from the stage, "for an incredible performance of the music of one of our very favorite composers." Mine too. Image094
