Above the Boardwalk

I didn't make it to any of this past weekend's Coney Island Rockabilly Festival, but I did make it out to the boardwalk in time to catch the tail end of the last Saturday night dance party of the summer, courtesy of Melting Pot NYC. True to its name, the gathering was a mix of all ethnicities and backgrounds, united by a love of soulful grooves and sunny vibes, even after sun was long gone. Towards closing time, DJ Sting International threw on Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and the crowd went absolutely apeshit.

"Damn, cool to see the brothers get into this," one partygoer said to me.

DJ Sting followed it up with Sinatra's recording of "New York, New York," with everyone singing along at the top of their lungs. I don't know what's to come of Coney Island after this year, but if that's the last memory I ever have of the old place, I can't complain. (More pics after the jump.) DSC03705
