Pirate Show

Pirate ShowThe days are waning for live outdoor music in New York, but today's a perfect day for the East Village Radio Music Festival, hosted by the pirate Internet station that broadcasts 24/7 out of a tiny storefront on 1st Ave. True to its eclectic programming, today's lineup - on two stages at the Seaport - includes everything from folk (Ólöf Arnalds) to indie (Awesome Color, Vivian Girls) to hip-hop (KRS-One and Devin the Dude.) A mixed bag, for sure, but within two hours, I've already made at least one new discovery: High Places, a Brooklyn duo who mix electronics and vocals into a huge, atavistic sound of shimmering textures, sewn up with a dancey vibe. Think: Sigur Ros mashed up with Animal Collective, with a little Dancehall thrown in for flavor. Brilliant. (More pics after the jump.)
