Soundtrack Duo
I've seen The Books before (twice actually), but it was new to the large, enthusiastic crowd here last night at the Gig Theater, who ate up their infectious blend of mashed up vintage films and rhythmic, cinematic scoring. For me, the silent videos were less distracting than those with audio, but it was all hugely entertaining - and very often moving.
Have I mentioned what warm, kind people Canadians are? After their standard encore, the audience brought Paul and Nick back with a full standing ovation. Paul seemed particularly touched as they started their second encore. "We hardly ever get to play this one, because we're hardly ever asked," before launching into a sweet song he wrote for his son to help him learn the alphabet. (More pics below.)
