Fringe Pop
Montreal must be a tough place to live in the winter, because now that it's (almost) summer, everything seems to be spilling out onto the streets. On my rounds today, I came across the Fete de la Mode, the First People's Festival, and now the Montreal Fringe Festival's free outdoor stage, Fringe Pop, co-presented by yet another festival, Pop Montreal. Local band Satellite Maps had a sweet, delicate sound, courtesy of guitar, keys, violin, electronics, and an occasional hurdy-gurdy. Seriously good music - does Montreal know anything but? - and they're only the first of four bands tonight. Next up: local youngsters Silly Kisses. (More pics below.)
