Feast of Music Presents: Vol. 2
The Master

American Bands

DSC00459Last night's show at Bowery Ballroom offered a sampling of straight-up American music from bands hailing from sea to shining sea. The Loom (Brooklyn, NY) played a stunning opening set, using the transporting vocals of John Fanning and Sydney Price and Lis Rubard's horn and trumpet playing to fall somewhere in between Bell Orchestre and The Punch Brothers. These United States (Lexington, KY) fell short on the back of Jesse Ellliott's shaky vocals and appearance, but San Francisco vets The Mother Hips played a tight hour-long set of straight-ahead rock punctuated with extended jams that had the whole room shaking.
