It's been 10 years since Yo-Yo Ma assembled The Silk Road Ensemble during a workshop here at Tanglewood, using the music of the former Silk Road route from China to Europe to develop a "broader, empathetic understanding of the peoples and cultures of our globalized world." In celebration of their first decade of performing and recording, The Silk Road Ensemble returned to Tanglewood last night, with a diverse program that featured new and traditional music from China, India, Greece and the Middle East, all filtered through the exacting musical lens of Ma and his collaborators. It was at turns wild, mysterious, driving and - above all - inspirational. For those of us comfortable to do one or two things in our careers, there's a lesson to be learned here.
