It would seem to make sense that NYU, which is surrounded by dozens of Village clubs, would have a kick-ass jazz program. This summer, the NYU Jazz Program is hosting a series of concerts at the historic Provincetown Playhouse, featuring students from the summer intensive program in jazz guitar, as well as local professionals. This Thursday, bassist Ben Allison (an NYU alum) and guitarist Steve Cardenas played a short set of improvisations, mixing standards with their own compositions.
The series continues through July 27, followed by the NYU Jazz Fest in August, featuring such downtown notables as Joe Lovano, Sam Newsome and Dave Pietro. Not a bad way to stay out of the heat. (More pics here.)
